Discover something different from local makers and artists

Steve Humphreys

My work is about shapes, the relationships they have with each other, the way they form to make a whole, and the negative space left behind. Addressing these issues I have created a collection of slab-built geometric reliefs, sculptural forms, tea-pots and other vessels.

I have taken inspiration from varied resources; firstly the Cubist and De Stijl art movements’, which have informed the geometry within my work. Another interest of mine is religious architecture especially that of the Gothic period on which the forms are based. These two aspects are combined through simplified drawings which are the starting point for three-dimensional making.

I currently have a small range of work and am also very happy to take commissions. Work sizes vary from small pieces for less than £10 to larger pieces which are up to £300.
