Discover something different from local makers and artists

Fiona Barber

I create jewellery through hand knitting coloured copper wires.

My fascination with natural enclosures: chrysalis, crustaceans, seaweed, seed heads, molluscs and shells is reflected in the irregular, organic, pod like forms I construct.

Some pieces follow a pre-designed pattern, but the majority are unplanned, knitted with no premeditation, so dictating their own form.

I have always had a passion for colour and texture. Knitting with coloured wires provides a rich and sumptuous colour. The pieces I create, as well as being very colourful, are textural with the combination of the different gauges of knitted wire entwined with delicate gemstones and glass beads.

Because of the techniques and materials used all the pieces dictate there own finished shape, so making each and every piece both distinctive and unique.

I frequently work to commission using specific colours for clients and designing the pieces to fit each individual.

My jewellery varies in price from £15 up to £200 for individually commissioned items.
