Jane Askey

Jane is a painter exploring a floral subject matter through the still life. The resonance of objects and their associations with time and place are central to the paintings; a moment, a specific season or time of day, an object evoking a memory of someone or somewhere, an unspoken narrative are layered into the paintings.

Flowers from the garden, vintage fabrics, found papers and decorative ceramics are combined to create a personal interpretation of colour and pattern to capture the essence of places and experiences.

A graduate of Manchester Polytechnic [1987], Jane’s training in Printed Textile Design and freelance design career have influenced her current practice. Elements pertinent to textiles are central to her approach to painting: pattern, rhythms and echoes of colour are investigated with an intense sensitivity to space and balance.

Many paintings have been published by prestigious giftware publishers including The National Trust, Paperlink, The Art Group, Woodmansterne and W!ldcard Company. Her work has been purchased by Paintings in Hospital North and is exhibited in galleries throughout Yorkshire and the Midlands.

Once a full-time university lecturer Jane now combines part-time teaching and painting. Limited edition giclee prints [£25-£95], original paintings [£100- £500]. Commissions are welcome.
