SOCK Gallery Exhibition: Please Shut the Gate
Posted On: 27/01/2012

Please Shut the Gate- A collaborative exhibition by Mark Langley and Marcia Blagg 19th January- 3rd March 2012

Please Shut the Gate An agricultural themed exhibition which will be explored by two artists using different mediums, pencil drawings and photography.

Mark Langley
Mark’s pencil and colour pencil work stands up to extremely close examination, and unlike most paintings looks even better at close quarters. Casual Observers may notice the highly realistic representational style but get a little closer and you will see that every hair and blade of grass is painstakingly drawn in individual pencil strokes.
Described as photorealistic expressionism, Mark’s work captures a realistic likeness whilst conveying the mood of the subject. Years of refinement have gone into developing his highly detailed style of drawing. A background in design and illustration has shaped his approach today. Mark has continued to work mainly in pencil and colour pencil, not wanting to be limited to one subject. His two main areas are animals and architecture.

Marcia Blagg
Marcia’s work is based around digital photography. But that is really only the start.
Manipulating the image by varying degrees, experimenting with adding 'hand drawn' layers and then printing onto different materials, turns the ordinary into the out of the ordinary.
This has taken her in two distinct directions. Staying with the farm and countryside animals which she loves and which first drew her to the world of photography. Then there is the completely abstract, an experimental expression of emotions, which is increasingly drawing her attention.
